Fail

Alot has happened since my last post. Let's recap.

My year with the OVC ended in June after the annual spring meetings. At the conclusion of basketball season I began applying for full time (and one legit internship with the Big Ten) positions across the country in athletic departments and conference offices.

Spring approached and Fall has arrived and throughout that time frame I thought for sure I would be on to my next adventure, whatever that might be. Alas, I have come up empty in my pursuit for gainful employment.

The list of offenders fall in to three categories: "Thank You For Applying", "Token Interview", and "Bridesmaid Extraordinaire".

Thank You For Applying consists of schools and conferences that I applied to and never got more than an email wishing me well on my career search, but not before telling me how terrible of a candidate I was. A few notable rejections came from the WCC, WAC, Utah, Colorado, Arizona State and a few others.

The Token Interview group at least let me talk to them about how awesome I am before they ultimately decided I had to be lying because why else would they pass on a chance to hire me? These included Conference USA, Oregon, The Peach Belt, and a few others still.

Lastly, Bridesmaid Extraordinaire is the group that let it be known that I'm talented, have a bright future and would fit in GREAT with their group but still thought I'd be better served with a helping of humble pie. Its normal to hear laughing on the other end of your rejection call right...right??? These lovely suitors were The Big Ten, Missouri Valley Conference, A10 and the Patriot League.

Some hired former interns, others NCAA interns and still others *hired illegal immigrants just to spite me. I'm lookin at you ASU! Regardless of who was ultimately chosen for these positions ahead of me I'm still optimistic that my future lies in intercollegiate athletics.

Its back to the drawing board for me now that school has started up again and job openings have slowed to a crawl. Should I go back to grad school and finish my masters? How about moving to a warm climate to be a bar tender until more openings reveal themselves? Oh, I know, I could live rent free in my parent's basement! The basement is probably the classier and more prestigious of the options.

Wherever life takes me, I'll be sure to update the masses (all 4 of you).
